FIFA has suspended Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes for ten matches following an outburst after the World Cup final against Spain and fined the Argentine Football Association a total of approximately 274,000 euros.

FIFA's Disciplinary Committee punished Paredes for his conduct immediately after the final. In addition to the ten-match international suspension, the Argentine federation was handed a total fine of 321,000 US dollars, which according to the federation equals around 274,000 euros or 257,000 Swiss francs.

According to FIFA, the sanctions are based on several violations. These include the use of a sporting event for non-sporting demonstrations as well as discriminatory and racist insults by Argentine players during or immediately after the match.
