Berlin, October 31, 2026

Berlin’s Left Party will decide on October 30 at a party conference in Lichtenberg whether to enter into coalition negotiations with the SPD, CDU, and Greens.

A clear majority is expected for the planned coalition negotiations when the party conference begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg. This should therefore satisfy the condition for the three parties to continue their cooperation in Berlin.

The SPD, CDU, and Greens had already endorsed the plan the week before. According to available information, the Left Party’s approval was the remaining step before talks on a new coalition could begin.

Prerequisite for a New Coalition

The decision is part of a broader undertaking that was discussed for several months. In a resolution, Berlin’s Left Party described the step as a “historic victory for Berlin” that brings the Left Party into responsibility for the capital city.
