The 33-year-old German man accused of driving a car into a crowd in Leipzig’s city center on Monday had explicitly warned his wife about the attack in an April chat message, according to police and corroborated sources.
Warning Signs and Prior Complaints
The suspect allegedly wrote to his wife in a chat message that "it had been a long time since a car was driven into a crowd of people," according to investigators. His wife had already contacted the youth welfare office in March and filed multiple complaints against him in April for threats, defamation, and insult.
Authorities confirmed the suspect had also threatened to kill other family members at least once before the attack. Despite these warnings, the man was released from a psychiatric hospital on April 29 after being treated for sending the ominous message. That same evening, police were called to his wife and child’s home for another incident, though details remain unclear.
