French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the planned international protection force for Ukraine is ready for deployment and that initial joint maneuvers will take place in Poland in autumn.

Macron's announcement from Paris

Speaking on Monday evening after consultations with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Macron referred to a multinational force that is now operationally ready. He initially did not name specific armies, dates, or concrete locations of the exercises.

The maneuvers are meant to demonstrate, in his words, "that we are ready, determined and credible – on land, in the air and at sea." France had already decided in January to form a multinational deployment force; Germany signaled its support at the time as well.
