Berlin, April 27, 2026 Germans embrace EU Digital Identity Wallet A new survey by the Digital Association Bitkom reveals that 54% of Germans are interested in adopting the upcoming European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI-Wallet), set to launch in 2027.
Growing Interest in Digital Identity Solutions
The EUDI-Wallet, designed to store essential documents like IDs and driver’s licenses on smartphones, has garnered significant attention in Germany. According to the Bitkom survey, 39% of respondents remain uninterested, while 6% are undecided. The findings highlight a divided but leaning-positive public sentiment toward digital identity adoption.
Among those open to using the wallet, 61% expressed interest in storing official documents such as IDs and driver’s licenses digitally. This suggests a strong appetite for convenience and modernization in personal identification methods. The survey underscores a shift in how Germans envision interacting with both private and public services.
Practical Applications Drive Adoption
Beyond document storage, the survey reveals key use cases motivating potential users. A notable 57% of respondents want to use the EUDI-Wallet for digitally signing contracts or invoices, while an equal percentage see value in proving their identity online—whether for government services or opening bank accounts.
