Bamako, 04 July 2026
The Malian army claims to have repelled coordinated attacks by the Islamist terrorist group JNIM and the Tuareg militia FLA on several towns in northern Mali, while the military described the situation as "fluid."
As the military of the West African country announced in a brief statement on Friday, the attacks targeted the towns of Gao, Aguelhok, Anefis, and Sefare. JNIM, the regional affiliate of the Al-Qaeda terror network in the Sahel, now cooperates with the FLA, a Tuareg militia, according to analysts. Until then, the two groups had largely fought each other; according to experts, the new collaboration is intended to further weaken the military government in Bamako.
