Vienna, 21 May 2026
A Vienna court has sentenced a 42-year-old man to 18 years imprisonment for attempting to kill his 54-year-old roommate in November 2025.
The incident occurred in a supervised living facility for addicts in Vienna-Meidling, where the defendant stabbed his roommate with a hunting knife during an argument reportedly sparked by music preferences. According to prosecution statements, the attack left the victim with serious injuries.
Psychiatric assessments presented in court described the defendant as having 'a combined personality disorder' with noted mood swings and a history of violence. The evaluation concluded he represents an ongoing danger to others, leading to his placement in a secure therapeutic facility rather than standard imprisonment.
