Los Angeles, 01 June 2026

On what would have been her 100th birthday, the life and career of Marilyn Monroe, one of cinema's most enduring icons, is being commemorated with a new photographic retrospective and a renewed focus on her artistic ambitions.

Born Norma Jeane Mortenson in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926, Monroe's early life was marked by instability. Her mother was psychologically ill and unable to care for her, leading Monroe to spend years in an orphanage and a series of foster families, where she experienced violence and sexual abuse.

At the age of 16, she married a neighbor to avoid being returned to the orphanage, a union that ended in divorce four years later. She initially found work as a model before securing her first film contract with 20th Century Fox in 1946.
