Oslo, 24 June 2026

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old eldest son of Mette-Marit, officially filed an appeal on Wednesday against the verdict of an Oslo court, which had sentenced him to four years in prison the previous week.

Subject Matter of the Appeal

As his defence lawyer confirmed to the Norwegian news agency NTB on Wednesday, Høiby is challenging several points of the verdict through his appeal. At the centre is the conviction for two rapes under Norwegian law. The appeal is also directed against the guilty verdict for abuse in his relationship with an ex-girlfriend.

The court in Oslo had sentenced him the previous week to four years in prison for 34 offences. The charge had included rape in four cases, of which he was however found guilty in only two cases. In both rape cases, according to the court's account, the victim was penetrated with a finger while asleep, which under Norwegian law constitutes rape.
