The Austrian-Australian doubles pair Lucas Miedler and Marc Polmans were eliminated in the first round of the hard-court tournament in Washington, thus suffering their first joint defeat.
The two tennis professionals Lucas Miedler and Marc Polmans had to swallow a surprising defeat at the tournament opener in Washington. On Tuesday, the duo lost to Argentina's Guido Andreozzi and France's Manuel Guinard 6:7(5/7), 6:7(6/8). As a result, the established doubles pair suffered their first joint defeat on the ATP Tour.
Miedler, who hails from Lower Austria, and his Australian partner Polmans had most recently triumphed at two consecutive tournaments. They had won the titles in Gstaad and Kitzbühel, making them one of the form-strongest doubles pairs of the summer season. In Washington, they failed to secure a victory this time, as both tie-breaks went to their opponents in extremely narrow fashion.
