Miedler and Polmans fall at the start in Washington

Two titles as momentum

Already on Monday, Miedler's regular Tyrolean partner Alexander Erler had lost on his comeback with Robert Cash (USA). The Lower Austrian's regular doubles partner was thus also unable to find his way back to winning form. Erler had taken a break due to injury and wanted to attack again in Washington, but he also fell at the opening hurdle.

In the women's draw, Anastasia Potapova provided a minor side note of the tournament week. The new Austrian, who recently had taken Austrian citizenship, also lost in the first round of the doubles at the Washington women's tournament alongside the American Sofia Kenin. For Miedler and Polmans, the season continues despite the disappointment in Washington. The hard-court tournament in Washington is an important annual hard test ahead of the North American Masters tournaments and the US Open. Numerous top doubles pairs use the event to check their form on the fast surface. Miedler and Polmans must now draw the necessary conclusions from their opening defeat in order to recapture their performances from the clay and grass season at the upcoming stops.
