Moderna's share price has risen 177 percent amid renewed investor focus on the company's experimental mRNA cancer vaccine, jointly developed with Merck and known by the working name Intismeran.
The jump follows renewed attention to a five-year dataset from a previous mid-stage trial presented in June, which showed the vaccine had cut the risk that the cancer would return by half. The same dataset indicated that the risk of the cancer spreading to new locations was reduced by 59 percent compared with Keytruda alone. Keytruda is Merck's established immunotherapy drug, and the comparison suggests the addition of Moderna's vaccine could meaningfully change outcomes for some patients.
