Talks already held

According to the report, talks have already taken place between both sides. Khedira is said to be Mourinho's preferred candidate for the assistant post. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano stated in the morning that the signing of Khedira as Mourinho's assistant was "sealed" and that an agreement had been reached. An official completion was not initially confirmed by the clubs.

Mourinho said he himself had come to Real Madrid as coach in 2010 and had brought Khedira to the Royals in the same year. "Der Portugiese hatte Khedira 2010 zu den Königlichen geholt". Under Mourinho, Khedira won the Spanish league title, the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid. Khedira played for Real Madrid from 2010 to 2015 and earned 77 caps for Germany.
