Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secretly visited the United Arab Emirates and met with its president during the war with Iran, marking a "historic breakthrough" in bilateral relations, his office confirmed Wednesday.
Details of the Secret Meeting
According to a source familiar with the talks, Netanyahu and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed met for several hours on March 26 in Al-Ain, an oasis city near the Oman border. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office described the encounter as a significant step forward in ties between the two nations, which normalized relations under the 2020 Abraham Accords.
The UAE's official WAM news agency later denied the visit took place, calling it "reports circulating" without basis. WAM stated that Emirati-Israeli relations "are public and conducted within the framework of the well-known and officially declared Abraham Accords, and are not based on non-transparent or unofficial arrangements." The agency also rejected claims that an Israeli military delegation had been received in the country.
