In the Round of 16 of the Football World Cup, Norway and Brazil are separated by a score of 0:0 at halftime at the New York/New Jersey Stadium, after Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland saved a penalty kick from Bruno Guimarães.

The match began with a bang: In the 3rd minute, Norway were already celebrating, but referee Ismail Elfath disallowed the goal from Patrick Berg following a pass from Sörloth. "Sörloth was offside!" was the reasoning given on the touchline. Even though the video review later corrected the course of play in Brazil's favor, the scene remained an initial warning sign.

Just under ten minutes later, the ball was again in the Norwegian penalty area: Cunha poked the ball past Kristoffer Ajer and was brought down by the defender. After a brief review on the screen, Elfath awarded a penalty to Brazil. "There is the penalty!" the official announced upon his return to the field.
