Norway has advanced to the next round of the FIFA World Cup after defeating Ivory Coast 2:1 in the Round of 32, while the German national team has already left the tournament following the group stage.

With the victory over Ivory Coast, the Norwegian women sealed their place in the Round of 16. "Die Skandinavier schlugen die Elfenbeinküste im Sechzehntelfinale mit 2:1," Deutschlandfunk reported in its broadcast on 01/07/2026. The match marked another step in the tournament for the Norwegian team, which had been able to rely on its experienced key performers throughout the competition so far.

The German national team was eliminated from the World Cup in the Round of 32. "Sie unterlag Paraguay im Elfmeterschießen mit 3:4," the broadcaster's report stated. Following the defeat, the squad departed the team base in Winston-Salem the previous day, as the programme contribution noted: "Die Spieler reisten gestern aus dem Team-Quartier in Winston-Salem ab." The tournament thus ended for the German Football Association's selection far earlier than hoped.
