The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are raising the prices for standard tickets and the Vorteilscard by an average of 3.5 percent with the timetable change in mid-December 2026, as the company announced on Thursday via press release.

ÖBB's Reasoning

As the ÖBB explained in a press release, prices for standard tickets and the ÖBB Vorteilscard will rise by an average of 3.5 percent with the timetable change on December 13. According to the state-owned railway company, this adjustment is below the 2025 inflation rate. The company also justified the step with persistently high energy prices and the associated cost pressure. "While driving and flying have also become more expensive due to rising fuel prices, the persistently high energy prices and the associated cost pressure make the ticket price increase necessary – nevertheless, despite the price adjustment, ÖBB continues to make rail travel affordable in Austria," the Federal Railways further stated.
