VIENNA, June 3, 2026

The OECD has lowered its growth forecast for Austria for the year 2026 to 0.7 percent, primarily attributing the correction to rising energy prices as a consequence of the Iran war.

Energy prices as the main burden

In its economic outlook published on Tuesday, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) now expects only 0.7 percent economic growth for Austria in the current year. This puts the country significantly below the average for OECD states, for which the organization expects growth of 1.5 percent in the current year and 1.7 percent in the coming year. For the Eurozone, the OECD forecasts 0.8 percent growth in the current year and 1.2 percent in 2027.
