VIENNA, May 3, 2026 OPEC+ raises oil output after UAE exit

The OPEC+ alliance, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, announced a daily production increase of 188,000 barrels of oil starting in June, following the unexpected departure of the United Arab Emirates from the group.

Production Increase Amid UAE Exit

OPEC+ confirmed the production hike in a statement published on its website Sunday, marking a strategic adjustment as global energy markets grapple with ongoing supply uncertainties. The decision comes just days after the UAE declared its intention to leave the alliance effective June 1, a move that caught many analysts off guard amid the ongoing global energy crisis.

The 188,000-barrel-per-day increase will be shared among Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the five remaining OPEC+ member states. The organization did not provide further details on how the additional output would be allocated among the participating nations.

UAE's Surprise Departure

The UAE’s abrupt exit from OPEC+ adds another layer of complexity to the group’s efforts to stabilize oil markets. While OPEC+ did not address the UAE’s departure directly in its latest statement, the move underscores growing tensions within the alliance over production quotas and market strategy.
