Over Two Million Viewers Watched Austria's World Cup Exit Against Spain on Television

Among viewers aged 12 and over, the average market share in both halves was 71.2 percent. In the target group of 12- to 49-year-olds, the broadcaster even achieved a market share of 81.5 percent. In addition to the TV viewers, the online broadcast recorded 1,378,000 video views and 52 million minutes watched. The platform thus registered the second-best online broadcast since the service was launched. Only the Argentina versus Austria match narrowly came out on top with around 3,000 video views.

The round-of-16 match on Thursday also drew numerous viewers to television screens in Germany. From 9 p.m. onwards, an average of 7.27 million were watching on ARD. The market share stood at 37.1 percent. As reported by dwdl.de, the ratings had been declining after the German national team's elimination but recovered during the Spain–Austria match.

Strong Ratings in Germany as Well

The figures underscore the great significance that the Austrian national team's appearance held for the domestic audience. Despite the clear 0:3 defeat against Spain, millions followed the team's elimination.
