Several astronomical highlights are on the horizon over Austria in August: a partial solar eclipse on the evening of August 12, the peak of the Perseid meteor shower on the night of August 13, and a partial lunar eclipse on the morning of August 28.

Kicking things off is a partial solar eclipse on the evening of August 12. In Austria, the sun will set nearly 90 percent obscured, explained the head of the Vienna Working Group for Astronomy (WAA), Alexander Pikhard, to the APA. Pikhard called the event "die stärkste Verfinsterung seit dem 11. August 1999, als in weiten Teilen Österreichs eine totale Finsternis zu sehen war".
