A 65-year-old patient was killed in the psychiatric ward of Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln in Berlin after an altercation with a 26-year-old fellow patient occurred on Sunday evening at around 11:10 p.m.
According to reports, the older patient sustained fatal injuries from a sharp-edged object. A resuscitation team was quickly called in but was unable to save the 65-year-old's life, a spokesperson for Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) on Monday.
The suspected perpetrator, a 26-year-old, had only been admitted to the clinic on Sunday with a diagnosis of psychosis, according to a press release. For reasons as yet unknown, a conflict broke out between the two men in the patient room. Following the act, the 26-year-old was transferred to a psychiatric unit with an elevated security level, according to sources close to the clinic.
