Online payment service PayPal released its results for the most recent quarter ahead of the start of US trading on Tuesday, surpassing analyst expectations on both revenue and earnings per share.

Group revenue climbed three percent during the reporting period to USD 8.68 billion, the company, headquartered in San José, California, announced. Analysts had only expected USD 8.47 billion in advance. In the same quarter of the previous year, PayPal had generated USD 8.288 billion. Earnings per share, at USD 1.38, also exceeded market expectations.

In pre-market trading on NASDAQ, PayPal shares were temporarily down 1.78 percent at USD 55.07, after intraday losses of around three percent and a price of USD 54.49. The stock has thus lost more than 80 percent of its value since its record high in 2021.
