RB Leipzig finalizes Demichelis' coaching staff: Fiél and Buck as assistant coaches

Demichelis "gleich am zweiten Arbeitstag komplettiert" his coaching staff at RB Leipzig, according to the club's release. The 45-year-old Stefan Buck is an old companion of the head coach: "Mit Stefan Buck bringt der Argentinier Demichelis einen alten Wegbegleiter aus Bayern-Zeiten mit," the club announced. Buck was previously an assistant coach under Dino Toppmöller at Eintracht Frankfurt and had already worked with Demichelis at FC Bayern's second team and U19 side. "Zuletzt war der 45-Jährige bis Januar 2026 Co-Trainer bei Fußball-Bundesligist Eintracht Frankfurt," RB Leipzig stated.

The 46-year-old Cristian Fiél will also be part of Leipzig's assistant coach trio going forward. "Wir sind gemeinsam mit Martín überzeugt davon, in dieser Trainerkonstellation erfolgreich arbeiten und unsere ambitionierten Ziele erreichen zu können," Schäfer explained. Fiél previously served as head coach at Hertha BSC, from where he was released in February 2025, and brings experience of around 90 matches as head coach at clubs including Dynamo Dresden, Hertha BSC, and 1. FC Nürnberg. He is also a former player and coach of Dynamo Dresden.

The third assistant coach position is taken by Mariano Cambursano, who has accompanied Demichelis since his time at River Plate. "Aus seiner Zeit bei River Plate begleitete Mariano Cambursano Demichelis auch bei seinen Stationen bei CF Monterrey und RCD Mallorca," the club explained. According to the club, Cambursano's focus lies in match and opposition analysis.

Continuity with Zimmermann and Gößling

Alongside the three new assistant coaches, Jan Zimmermann and goalkeeper coach Frederik Gößling are also reportedly remaining part of the staff. "Bleiben bei RB werden Jan Zimmermann, der auch bei Ole Werner im Team war, sowie Torwarttrainer Frederik Gößling. Er ist bereits seit 2015 bei RB in Leipzig," it was stated. Gößling has thus been looking after the Saxons' goalkeepers for over ten years.

Independent of the personnel planning on the coaching bench, RB Leipzig also announced a new signing on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Japanese attacking player Ota Yamamoto moves from Kashiwa Reysol to the Saxons and has signed a contract until 2031. However, the attacker will be loaned out immediately to the Japanese partner club RB Ōmiya Ardija to gain match practice.

The personnel decisions come during a turbulent sporting phase for RB Leipzig, which had signed Demichelis as its new head coach following the departure of previous head coach Ole Werner. With the now complete coaching staff, the Saxons want to set the course for the coming season.
