In the closing stages, Parndorf seemed close to equalizing, but in the final minute, goalkeeper Schmidt saved the Burgenländer with a strong save to send the match into extra time. This meant the underdogs could at least still hope for a sensation.
In extra time, Salzburg then showed their class difference and sealed the result with two further goals. In the end, a 3:0 victory saw Salzburg progress to the next round without great difficulty. The cup round of 16 is therefore a mandatory task for the Austrian serial champions.
