Around 60 to 70 football fans overcame security barriers in the entrance area of the Hoffmann Personal Stadion in Linz on Saturday evening, injuring a stadium employee in the process; a 29-year-old fan from Vienna was swiftly identified as a suspected perpetrator, according to the Upper Austria State Police Directorate.

What happened at the stadium

The incident occurred on Saturday, 11 July 2026, at around 5:40 p.m. in the entrance area of the Hoffmann Personal Stadion on the Donaulände in Linz, before kickoff of a friendly match between Fenerbahce Istanbul and Pogon Szczecin. According to police, "etwa 60 bis 70 Fußballfans unerlaubt den Einlassbereich an der Donaulände" stormed. The crowd "durchbrach gewaltsam das erste Absperrgitter", as the police report states.
