US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Monday that the United States would impose sanctions on officials of the International Criminal Court, escalating a campaign by the Trump administration to dismantle the tribunal over its investigations in Gaza.
Speaking at the State Department, Rubio described the ICC as a rogue institution and said the new measures would target judges, prosecutors, and other officials involved in what he called politically motivated prosecutions of US allies. The announcement comes amid a wider push by the administration to defund and delegitimize the court, which has opened multiple investigations touching on the Israeli military operations in Gaza.
