Cologne, 20 August 2026

1. FC Köln has extended its contract with attacking player Saïd El Mala ahead of schedule, as the Bundesliga football club announced on 20 August 2026.

As the club communicated on Thursday, the attacking player is committing himself to the Geißböcke beyond his original contract end date. The club is thereby responding to the growing interest from other clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, who had intensively scouted El Mala in recent months.

The Cologne native came through 1. FC Köln's youth setup and is regarded as one of Germany's biggest attacking talents. In the current season, he has regularly featured in the Bundesliga and impressed with goals and assists. El Mala himself had repeatedly emphasised that he feels at home at FC and identifies with the club. "Ich bin in Köln geboren, hier aufgewachsen, und der FC ist mein Verein. Ich will hier eine Ära mitprägen", said El Mala, according to WDR.de.
