Salzburg, July 30, 2026

Red Bull Salzburg faces Cypriot club Pafos FC in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, battling for a place in the league phase of the competition.

The draw in Nyon pitted Salzburg against an opponent from Cyprus: in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, the Austrian club will meet Pafos FC, who won the 2025/26 Cypriot championship and were thus represented for the first time in the premier competition of European club football. The matches are scheduled for August 7 and 14, 2026, with the first leg, according to the standard UEFA grid, to be played away at the underdog before the return leg takes place in Salzburg.

Pafos FC, based in the port city of Limassol, has undergone a rapid rise in recent years. The club established itself at the top of the Cypriot first division and qualified through the national championship for the Champions League play-offs before slipping into the Europa League pathway. For Salzburg, the duel represents an unfamiliar constellation: for the first time in a while, they will face a club not from one of the five major leagues in a European qualifying round.
