FC Schalke 04 have won their first-round DFB-Pokal tie at fourth-division side Hallescher FC 5:2 after extra time and have thereby advanced to the next round.
The traditional club from the Ruhr region came from behind to beat fourth-division side Hallescher FC 5:2 (2:2, 0:1) after extra time. For long stretches, the Schalke side struggled against the underdog from Saxony-Anhalt and had to go to additional time.
The favorites from Gelsenkirchen fell behind early. Halle took their chances consistently and thereby put the Bundesliga side in an uncomfortable position. The visitors needed time to find their way into the game.
Hallescher FC surprise early on
Moussa Sylla and Edin Dzeko, both ÖFB (Austrian national team) players, were the decisive attacking figures for Schalke as the match progressed. Dzeko, 40 years old, showed his experience as a target man and creator.
