Actor Alec Baldwin is facing a civil lawsuit over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film *Rust* in October 2021. The lawsuit, filed by Serge Svetnoy, alleges negligence by Baldwin and the film's producers in violating safety protocols, including the presence of live ammunition on set.

Lawsuit Allegations and Safety Failures

The lawsuit claims that Baldwin and the producers failed to adhere to basic safety measures, leading to the tragic incident. Investigations revealed that a real bullet was in the prop gun Baldwin handled, though it remains unclear how it got there. Svetnoy, who was present during the shooting, alleges that the defendants ignored multiple warnings about unsafe conditions.

Svetnoy's legal filing states that the bullet that killed Hutchins passed dangerously close to his face, and he held her in his arms as she died. This experience has caused him significant emotional distress. "The defendants' reckless disregard for safety protocols directly led to this preventable tragedy," the lawsuit asserts.

Legal Proceedings and Previous Cases

Baldwin was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter, but the case was unexpectedly dismissed in July 2024 due to allegations of prosecutorial misconduct. Meanwhile, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer responsible for weapon safety on set, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
