Berlin, June 12, 2026
Deutsche Bahn will begin extensive construction work on the Berlin Stadtbahn on Sunday, June 14, 2026, lasting until December 12, 2026, with far-reaching consequences for regional, long-distance, and S-Bahn services.
What is being done on the Stadtbahn?
Construction will take place for six months on the capital's most important east-west connection. As Deutsche Bahn announced, the construction crews will replace rail fastenings along the Stadtbahn, repair switches and the drainage system, clean the tracks, and work on the overhead lines. At Berlin Hauptbahnhof, a new switch truss will also be installed. Four new switches are intended to make track changes and reversing between two tracks easier. Between June 14 and December 12, the railway will carry out bridge and track work at Hauptbahnhof and at Zoologischer Garten station, among other things.
