Berlin, 28 May 2026
The Sommerbad Neukölln in Berlin will open its doors for the summer season no earlier than June 18, as delivery difficulties for pool water filter material cause a significant delay.
The Berliner Bäder-Betriebe confirmed the postponement on Thursday, citing ongoing supply chain issues for the specialized filter material required to treat the pool water. The outdoor pool, a popular destination in the Neukölln district, was originally expected to welcome swimmers earlier in the month.
This is the second consecutive year that a technical problem has disrupted the start of the season at the Sommerbad Neukölln. In 2025, a missing spare part was responsible for a delayed opening, frustrating local residents and summer enthusiasts.
A Recurring Problem
Once the filter material is installed, the pool must undergo a mandatory water quality testing process. According to the Bäder-Betriebe, it typically takes about 14 days for the health authority to analyze the samples and grant the official operating permit.
