Fire near Wallsee: Jump into the water saves the boat skipper

According to the fire department, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Wallsee at the entrance to a Danube oxbow. The sport boat caught fire from a still-unknown cause. The boat skipper initially tried to extinguish the flames himself, but was unsuccessful. He then jumped into the Danube and swam to shore on his own.

The burning, now unmanned boat drifted off down the Danube. The crews of the Wallsee Volunteer Fire Department (FF Wallsee) then set out with their fireboat, the so-called A-Boot. According to FF Wallsee, the A-Boot was equipped with a portable pump, a so-called Tragkraftspritze, as well as a water cannon, in order to be able to follow and extinguish the drifting fire on the water.
