A stage worker was killed during preparations for Shakira’s upcoming concert on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach after being crushed between two lifting platforms, according to local emergency services.

Fatal Accident During Stage Setup

The worker sustained fatal injuries after becoming trapped between two hydraulic lifting platforms while assembling the stage for Shakira’s performance, reported the Brazilian news portal *G1*, citing fire department officials. The incident occurred just days before the Colombian singer’s scheduled show, part of the *"Todo Mundo no Rio"* ("The Whole World in Rio") concert series.

The stage, expanded to approximately 1,500 square meters for Shakira’s performance, surpasses the dimensions of previous concerts held at the venue, which typically spanned 1,345 square meters. The massive scale of the production has drawn comparisons to other record-breaking events at Copacabana Beach, including Madonna’s 2024 performance, which attracted 1.6 million attendees, and Lady Gaga’s 2025 concert, which set a new record with an estimated 2.5 million spectators.
