The Italian antitrust authority has launched an investigation into Vorwerk, the German manufacturer of Thermomix kitchen appliances, over allegations of unfair business practices related to the discontinuation of cloud services for its Neato brand vacuum robots.
Investigation Details
The Italian Competition Authority, supported by the country’s financial police, conducted searches at the offices of Vorwerk Management and Vorwerk Italia on Wednesday. The probe focuses on claims that Vorwerk abruptly terminated smart services for its Neato robotic vacuums, rendering essential functions inoperable and effectively making the devices unusable.
The investigation was triggered by consumer complaints, which alleged that the sudden withdrawal of cloud-based features violated fair competition practices. Vorwerk, headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, operates two subsidiaries in Italy that are directly involved in the case.
Vorwerk’s Response
Vorwerk has pledged full cooperation with the authorities. In a statement released late Thursday, the company said: *"Vorwerk teilte am späten Donnerstagabend mit, uneingeschränkt mit den Behörden zu kooperieren."* (Vorwerk stated late Thursday evening that it would cooperate fully with the authorities.)
