In several French cities, student protests have escalated, with teachers attacked and school buildings damaged, sparking outrage nationwide.
The protests, originally initiated by students against various political measures, have become increasingly violent in recent days. Reports from across the country show burning trash cans, smashed windows, and confrontations between demonstrators and security forces. Schools in the suburbs of larger cities are particularly affected, where the situation partially spiraled out of control according to local authorities.
A teacher from La Ciotat, around 30 kilometers east of Marseille, reported to the broadcaster BFMTV that he was doused with gasoline by students when he tried to extinguish a deliberately set fire on a tree in front of the school. The incident illustrates the escalation of violence, which now also directly affects teachers who find themselves caught between demonstrators and law enforcement.
