SK Sturm Graz failed to do better than 1:1 on Saturday away to WSG Tirol in the Austrian Bundesliga, dropping more points in the title race.

The match, played in front of 2,230 fans on a pitch that had been badly affected by the previous day's second-tier fixture between Wacker Innsbruck and Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz, offered no highlights in the opening phase. Both sides felt each other out, with clear scoring chances initially scarce. The difficult pitch conditions made any structured build-up play almost impossible and led to numerous misplaced passes in midfield.

Sturm, who had begun the season with high ambitions, found it difficult to settle into the game. The Tyroleans sat compact and waited to counter, while the Graz side tried to build pressure down the flanks. Despite spells of superiority on the ball, the Graz side lacked the cutting edge in the opposing penalty area.
