Stockholm, 13 June 2026
King Carl XVI Gustaf, 80, and Queen Silvia, 82, of Sweden celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Stockholm on Saturday with a church service, a royal barge ride and an open carriage procession, culminating in a concert at the Royal Opera.
The Saturday celebrations fell one day before the couple's actual anniversary on 19 June, with the date moved to accommodate Sweden's Midsummer holiday, which falls on the Friday this year. Festivities had begun roughly a week earlier, and the day's programme echoed traditions from the eve of the original 1976 wedding, when the then-prince and Silvia Sommerlath attended a concert at the Royal Opera the night before their marriage.
