Sweden won its opening match in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Tunisia 5:1 (2:0) on Monday in Monterrey.
The match began optimally for the Scandinavians. The team, featuring Arsenal attacker Viktor Gyökeres, established clear territorial advantage early on. A first shot by Gyökeres was cleared off the line by Tunisian defender Montassar Talbi, but on the follow-up, Yasin Ayari of English Premier League side Brentford sent the ball into the net from around 20 meters.

With the early lead, Sweden controlled the match. Tunisia, which had lost 0:1 to Austria in preparation, struggled to get into the duels and repeatedly made defensive errors. The result was a clear halftime score of 2:0 in favor of the North Europeans.
