Seventeen percent of Austrian businesses will need to comply with stricter cybersecurity requirements under a new law implementing the EU's NIS-2 directive, according to the credit protection association KSV1870.

New Cybersecurity Requirements for Critical Sectors

The legislation, designed to transpose the EU's NIS-2 directive into national law, aims to bolster defenses against cyber threats for systemically important institutions and companies. Key sectors affected include energy providers and food retailers, which are now mandated to adopt enhanced security protocols.

The KSV, Austria's leading credit protection association, emphasized that the rules will significantly impact the country's business landscape. "Das Gesetz, mit dem die EU-Richtlinie 'NIS-2' umgesetzt wird, soll systemrelevante Institutionen und Unternehmen – darunter etwa Energieversorger und Lebensmittelhandel – auf potenzielle Cyberattacken vorbereiten," the organization stated, underscoring the directive's focus on critical infrastructure.
