Actor Tom Cruise is to be honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2027 for his lifetime of work, as announced by the American Film Institute.
The award is considered one of the most prestigious honors in the U.S. film industry and is presented annually to individuals whose body of work has had a lasting impact on cinema. With the decision in favor of Tom Cruise, the American Film Institute says it is recognizing his decades-long career in front of and behind the camera.
The award, established in 1973, follows a line of prominent predecessors, including past honorees such as Steven Spielberg, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Francis Ford Coppola, Jane Fonda, and Meryl Streep. The list reflects the breadth of acting, directing, and producing, and is regarded within the industry as an unofficial marker of an entire career.
