At the start of summer holidays in several German states, the ADAC and the Swiss automobile club TCS expect particularly heavy travel traffic on the autobahns toward the Alps, the Mediterranean, and the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas.
The ADAC and the TCS assume that the main travel routes will be heavily overloaded over the weekend. The TCS stated "dass besonders die Autobahnen in Richtung Alpen, Mittelmeer und zu den Küsten von Nord- und Ostsee extrem überlastet sein werden". The automobile clubs advised travelers to allow for longer driving times.
In Bavaria, where the holidays begin, the A 7 is considered one of the most heavily affected routes. The A 1, which runs through several German states, is also among the well-known congestion routes in travel traffic. The ADAC pointed out that traffic on these routes concentrates in the late morning and early afternoon hours.
