WASHINGTON, D.C. — May 6, 2026
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran has agreed not to possess nuclear weapons as both nations edge closer to a potential deal to end their longstanding conflict.
Negotiations Near Agreement
President Trump described recent talks with Iran as "very good" and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement. "Es ist sehr wahrscheinlich, dass wir einen Deal machen werden," he said, emphasizing the likelihood of a deal. The U.S. has proposed a 14-point agreement, which includes Iran surrendering 408 kilograms of highly enriched uranium to American authorities.
Iran is currently reviewing the U.S. proposal, though Tehran has not yet confirmed any acceptance. The potential agreement may also include a 30-day negotiation period to finalize terms. However, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghai, dismissed reports of an imminent deal as "überzogen" (overblown), casting doubt on the immediacy of any resolution.
