President Donald Trump filed a revised defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, escalating a legal dispute over the newspaper's reporting on an alleged congratulatory letter to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The amended complaint, submitted to a federal district court in Florida, comes weeks after Judge Darrin P. Gayles preliminarily dismissed Trump's original lawsuit. The Wall Street Journal itself reported on the new filing.
In his earlier ruling, Judge Gayles stated that Trump had not plausibly demonstrated the newspaper acted with 'malicious intent' in publishing the letter. The judge added that certain legal criteria were 'by far' not met.
