US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that US armed forces have cleared the entire Strait of Hormuz of mines, after Iran's National Security Council had previously set sweeping conditions for reopening the waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea routes for global oil transport between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, had been blocked by mines according to US accounts. Trump told journalists that the clearance was complete. He made the remarks on Tuesday at the White House, speaking of a full removal of mines along the route. Independent confirmation of this account was not immediately available.
