London, May 1, 2026 UK terror threat level raised after London stabbing The UK has elevated its terror threat level to "severe" following a stabbing attack targeting Jewish men in London, as authorities warn of a growing antisemitic threat linked to Islamist and right-wing extremism.
Attack and Arrest
Two Jewish men, aged 76 and 34, were stabbed in London’s Golders Green neighborhood, a predominantly Jewish area, leaving both victims in stable condition. A 45-year-old Somali-born man was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon. The suspect’s name and photo were released in line with UK protocol.
The Islamist group Ashab al-Yamin claimed responsibility for the attack, as well as a previous arson incident in Golders Green. Another group, Ashab al-Jamin, also asserted involvement, though authorities have not confirmed these claims. The Iranian embassy in London denied any connection to the violence, calling allegations of its involvement "baseless" and "politically motivated."
Rising Antisemitism and Terror Threat
The UK’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) raised the national terror threat level to 4—indicating an attack is "highly likely" in the next six months—citing increased risks from Islamist and far-right extremism. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood pledged to "do everything in [the government’s] power to eradicate antisemitism from society."
