Kyiv, 17 July 2026

Eight major Ukrainian media outlets jointly reported on 17 July 2026 on corruption allegations surrounding the head of Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), thereby breaking a court-ordered publication ban imposed at the beginning of the month.

The participating newsrooms published the investigation results simultaneously, after a court had prohibited the publication of the allegations at the beginning of July. In its reasoning, the court argued that publication would cause irreparable harm to those affected, namely SBI chief Oleksii Sukhachov and the companies involved. The media, however, saw this as an impermissible interference with press freedom and decided to publish the reporting nonetheless.
