Frankfurt, April 28, 2026 Postbank strikes as Verdi demands 8% pay increase Germany’s Verdi union has called for warning strikes at Postbank branches, demanding an 8% pay increase or at least €300 per month for employees, alongside improved job security and training rights.
Pay and Job Security Demands
Verdi is pushing for significant wage improvements for Postbank employees, including an 8% salary increase or a minimum of €300 more per month. Trainees are also part of the union’s demands, with Verdi seeking an additional €200 monthly for them. The union argues that the current pay structure does not reflect the economic realities faced by workers, particularly in light of rising living costs.
Beyond wages, Verdi is advocating for stronger job and location guarantees, as well as a legally binding right to further training opportunities, including in emerging fields like artificial intelligence. The union contends that these measures are essential to ensure long-term stability for employees amid ongoing industry changes.
Employer’s Response and Next Steps
Postbank’s parent company, Deutsche Bank, has so far only presented an offer that Verdi claims fails to address the economic challenges faced by the bank and its workforce. The union has criticized the proposal as insufficient, stating it does not meet the needs of employees in the current financial climate.
