A Vienna court has sentenced Egisto Ott, a former Austrian intelligence officer, to four years and one month in prison for spying for Russia.

The 63-year-old former officer of the now-defunct Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counterterrorism (BVT) was convicted of abuse of office and espionage. The jury found unanimously that Ott had passed secret information to Russian intelligence services between 2015 and 2022.

According to the indictment, Ott collected data on individuals of interest to Russia, including residence locations, license plate numbers, and travel movements. He allegedly received payments ranging from three to four figures in euros for these unauthorized activities.
