Vienna, 20 May 2026
A Vienna court is set to deliver its verdict today in the espionage trial of Egisto Ott, a former Austrian intelligence officer accused of passing state secrets to Russian intelligence services.
The prosecution alleges Ott provided Russian intelligence with sensitive information from a SINA laptop containing classified EU intelligence data, for which he reportedly received €20,000. Several service mobile phones belonging to high-ranking interior ministry officials that fell into the Danube during a 2017 boat trip in Tulln are also said to have reached Russia's FSB security service through Ott and former Wirecard executive Jan Marsalek.
