Victor Willis, lead singer and co-founder of the disco band Village People, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the age of 74 from a brief but aggressive illness, as the band and his wife announced via social media.
„Mit tiefer Trauer geben wir den Tod von VICTOR WILLIS, dem Leadsänger der Village People, bekannt", a statement issued by the band on Wednesday read. The group's official Facebook page as well as Willis' wife confirmed the musician's death. Management asked the public to respect the privacy of the bereaved.

In a Facebook post, the cause of death was described as a „kurzen, aggressiven Krankheit". According to the post, Willis died on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following a short, severe course of illness and a swift farewell in private. His widow also addressed the public with a statement of her own: „Mit tiefer Trauer muss ich den Tod meines Ehemanns, Victor Willis, bekanntgeben".
